This blog outlines a recent government decision to revoke the requirement for all vaping devices to have a removable battery.
Removable batteries are no longer required in vaping devices
The Government has made the decision to remove the requirement for all vaping devices to have a removable battery.
This means that from 1 September 2025 all vaping devices (including heated tobacco devices) will no longer be required to have a battery that can be removed from the vaping device. This decision does not affect the recent ban on disposable vaping devices.
For more information about the decision to revoke the requirement for removable batteries in vaping devices please see the Minister’s announcement – Removeable battery regulations revoked – beehive.govt.nz.
Disposable vaping devices are still banned
The decision to revoke the removable battery requirement does not affect the ban on disposable vaping devices which bans the sale, offer for sale, manufacture, supply or distribution of disposable vaping devices.
For more information about disposable vapes visit the Ministry website – Sale or supply of disposable vaping devices.
